Going beyond grades: Evolving the Singapore education system

Emphasis has been made in trying to slowly evolve Singapore's education towards holistic development.

As a parent, we would want to bring up our children to be a person with strong character and values. We will want to ensure that they will have the skills and values they need for life.

Therefore, as quoted from our Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong "We need to build character and inculcate strong values in our children... and provide them with a broad range of experiences and encourage their interest in non-academic areas."

Holistic development comes in various ways.

At Precious Gems Enrichment Centre, we provide holistic education with tuition, enrichment and music classes.

Music - WHY MUSIC? Some parents may ask.

Music plays an important role in child developments.

When we use the term ‘holistic development’ we refer to every aspect of the child which includes socially, creatively, intellectually, cognitively, physically, emotionally and spiritually. It creates a sense of structure, discipline and confidence and a medium for self-expression and imagination.

Learning music teaches the child the value of seeing things through and completing tasks, concentration and the ability to follow instructions. Participating in music helps develop the fine motor skills, hand-eye co-ordination, reading and listening skills, as well as develop and exercise aural discrimination.

All of these have to start from a young age and as a parent, we're sure that you are on the same direction as us!

Our music courses, which are done up by our own music team, caters to children of various age groups.

We'll build their self-confidence, shape their character building and importantly develop them holistically.

Our music team ensures that the musical knowledge is translated into easy-to-grasp and enjoyable learning materials so that the concept can be easily understood for young children. It is a valuable course for young children to kick-start their interests and exposure to music, and lay a good foundation for the music course proper in subsequent years.
